About this Site Pomona Folk is the result of a collaboration between the Historical Society of Pomona Valley and the Interdisciplinary General Education Department (IGE) at Cal Poly Pomona. As part of Cal Poly's Service Learning programs, students in IGE were asked to collect stories and histories from area residents to add to the archival resources of the Historical Society. Prior to conducting interviews, students learned Pomona history, oral history collection methods, and participated in discussions about community. Working individually and in teams, they visited residents, took photos, asked questions, and most importantly, listened. In addition to collecting and logging this data for inclusion in the archive, students were asked to create reflective essays to explore what the information and experience meant to their own lives and that of the larger community that they were now a part of. In the spirit of its predecessor, American Folk, this site will include excerpts of interviews, reflective essays, photos, and other results from this ongoing project. We invite you to take part in the growth of this site and our collective community by volunteering to be interviewed by one of the students. If you are interested, please fill out the form at left and we will contact you as the project progresses. Thank you for visiting! |
